GAMSMAG STYLE

No, I didn't say GANGNAM, I said GAMSMAG...a lookbook of inspiration and ideas compiled by yours truly from sources such as PINTEREST, TUMBLR & FLICKR...the three internet sites that are like friends to me now...and since I'm entirely bored with FB, I'm back to needing all the friends I can get!

Frankly, I feel you can get a lot more deep, personal information about someone from their PINTEREST page than FB...for instance, what colors they like, the clothes they like to wear, people they admire, and whatever else interests them...all in popular visual format, and so much more civilized than a bunch of selfies and embarrassing photobombs!

Speaking of PINTEREST, I have since created several more boards than I reported previously...all the links are listed to the right of this page!! Whether you love color or black & white, vintage or visionary, you'll enjoy a daily dose of EYE CANDY with fabulous flavors like mint, mango, pistachio, coconut, chocolate, cherry, vanilla and strawberry...with sprinkles of art, burlesque, fashion, fun, design, decor and dreams! Enjoy... and share with your friends! Mwahhh!

Edith & Audrey

I see Google is currently honoring the 116th birthday of one of the most innovative fashion designers of all time...the amazing Edith Head! I say we do the same!

Happy Birthday, Edith!   ...I wish I knew ya...

And with her spirit in mind, I just know YOU are going to love this clip featuring a young, innocent and utterly charming Audrey Hepburn screen-testing a few of Edith's creations from Roman Holiday! Ciao, darlings!!

Hello, Kitty!

Me-ow!  Here's a little stray I found hiding among the hats at my local G-Willie's...ain't she sweet? Look at the cute button detail at the crown...and she's soooo soft to the touch! $5.99, you say? Well, I had to take her home with me, natch.

She's in purrr-fect condition...perhaps the poor dear has spent most of her life in a box...amazing how she's still right in style! She's sporting a RAINBOW of California label, but I can't seem to find any info on them anywhere...so she really is an orphan! But those lonely days are over...now she can start a new life in my heart and on my head! Thrift-O-Gasm!!

Goldie Gown

My fanatical thrift-shopping friend, Babe of Belltown, is forever gifting me with fabulous finds from his fashion forays! He's given me some great stuff over the years....like my silver leather trench coat, for instance...he knows The Gams goes for The Glitz! So, true to form, Babe recently presented me with the most golden Golden Gown I've ever gawked at...incredibly, a vintage Jessica McClintock Gunne Sax creation! I've named her Goldie...because she practically insisted!

Photos don't do her justice...she's really got to be seen to be believed! I like to think of her as sort of a mullet of a gown...respectable, simple lines up front...party in the back!!

So here's the front...she's strapless, floor length and, miraculously, just the right length as well!

Just look at the fabulous sequining!

Ok, now take a peek at the back!

Not only is there this fabulous bow closure that hides the zipper...

...but a fuckin' bustle!  I've lifted her skirt here so you can see the amount of tulle going on underneath!

And, of course...the label!

It says 5-6 but she's kidding...she's more of a 1-2...which is probably why she was orphaned in the first place. I can barely squeeze into her, and I usually swim in a 5-6...vintage sizing can be confusing. In any case, Goldie and I will be sharing the stage tonight during my vocal performance at ROCK-A-RAISE!

Thanks, Babe! Mwwwahhhhh!

Let's Bring Back...

Darlings, wouldn't it be heavenly fun to bring back such intriguing, hidden messages with gloves, hankies and parasols...along with many other forgotten customs, fashions and frivolities? Don't you miss some of the cool stuff we had...and especially what we never had? We are not alone! I recently picked up a marvelous book from my everlovin' local library, called "Let's Bring Back", by Lesley M.M.Blume. It's been out about a year now, but I hadn't seen it before, and if you haven't had the pleasure, here's a delightful little teaser that should inspire you hunt it down at your local library or bookseller! Trez Divoon!

You can also check out Lesley's column in the Huffington Post.

Veteran with a Vision

A salute to our Veterans today...one in particular, by the name of Frederick Mellinger, who worked as a tailor in the Army Signal Corps during WWII. His buddies (and their pin-up calendar girls) inspired him to create sexy apparel...like black lace bras...that they could send to their girlfriends back home...so upon his discharge...voila!

Frederick's of Hollywood was born!

That was 1946...by 1964 the company was going strong...because goodness knows, by that time every gal wanted "that 'marry-a-millionaire' look"! In fact, I still do!...especially at these prices.

My favorites here are ALWAYS POPULAR and HOLIDAY ROMANCE!

I've always wanted a li'l somethin' called BUCKLE BAIT...but I'd settle for DOTS WITH DASH!

I don't know what the names of these playsuits are, but who cares? I'll take one of each!

That racy red SHIFTY SIREN might do...and her 'do might do, too!

Just the name MANTRAP is enough to make me want it...and VOGUISH VANITY is sexy, too...but sorry, Frederick, my fine fellow...I'd never buy any frickin' frock called FACT FINDER!

Oh, if only the three in the bottom row were destined to be Dramatically Mine...especially that green ensemble!

Now for the shoes...I'll take TOWN GOSSIP, STAR STRUCK and, of course, JUNGLE KING!

And here's a silly question...why 5 inch heels? Because Mr. Frederick said so, that's why!

My Guardian Shopping Angel

Good ol' Oso isn't the only one receiving gifts of thrift lately. My pal Babe of Belltown has a knack of unearthing the most glamorous treasures which he enjoys bestowing upon his friends...me included! Just look at these Gam-o-riffic additions to my wardrobe:

An effin' awesome silver (and I do mean silver!) leather trench coat! Won't it look great with those RALPH by Ralph Lauren zebra-print pants? I'm not a label whore, darlings ~ really I'm not ~ but I can't resist showing you a close-up anyway, just in case you don't believe good ol' Polo-boy could create something so wild!! Anyway, for more formal occasions, it'll look great with the vintage Qipao dress, this one Japanese-made in black, gold and silver brocade!

Babe knows I have a wild side and love all things burlesque, so he must have known how much I'd love this absolutely amazing corset that he himself created! It's beautifully constructed inside and outside with a patchwork of multicolored brocade strips and edged in mauve lace! I managed to skuh-weeeeze myself into this beauty, but without any...ahem...cups, it rather lacks the support I need in the places I need it...yet it's so wonderfully over-the-top (so to speak) that I'm indeed proud to have it in my burlesque closet!

The other thing he always seems to find are these gorgeous Cheongsam dresses...sadly, they are usually too small, apparently once worn by maidens with wasp waists and swan necks! Just look at the fabrics though...some are beaded, some hand-painted...fabulous! So I'm tearing them apart at the seams...carefully...while thinking about how to refashion them into something that does fit.

What would a girl do without her guardian shopping angel?? I'm glad I got you, Babe!
