Happy Birthday, Gay Dawn!

Today is a very special day!

I don't even have time to apologize for not blogging in the past few months, because right now I'm much too excited to relate how the power of the internet brought a happy ending to a small mystery I've been trying to solve! I'm referring to this blog post of 3 years ago, when I was searching for more to the story on "Everybody's Girl".. Miss Gay Dawn!

Here's the exciting part! Just last night I received an email from an acquaintance who reported that Gay Dawn's daughter, Gayleen Hays, had seen that blog post...then, wonder of wonders, this morning I received a lovely email from Gayleen herself! To me, this is like hearing from a celebrity!

THANK YOU!!!!!
Last night I was feeling so lonely without her and then I found your blog!! It was a wonderful gift, almost as though you two were sending me smiles. I toasted to you and Mommy, remembering the days when I sat next to the piano player and watched her as she bumped and shimmied out of her clothes, so beautiful, I was seven. She was funny, wise, childlike, complicated, full of secrets and sweet. You two are a perfect match. Big hugs, You made her birthday unforgettable!!!

If this wasn't thrilling enough, I was also provided with an update on family and grandchildren, one of whom is Serina Dawn of the Serina Dawn Band.  I was also intrigued to find out that Gayleen authored a book, published in 1992, entitled 'Policewoman One' .. a tell-all about her 20 years on the LAPD! Now how could I have missed that?? and guess who will be visiting Amazon today for a book purchase??

Many, many thanks to Gayleen Hays for reaching out to me! I couldn't be more thrilled that my little post finally found its way home...and a HAPPY, HAPPY birthday to 'Everybody's Girl'.. GAY DAWN! xoxo

Post-Patty's Day Post

I could just conk myself on the head with a big fat shelaleigh for missing my St.Patrick's Day post yesterday! After all, friends...Irish whiskey blood simply courses through my glamorous veins...not to mention that the Galore Clan is about as green as they can get... and this gal is no exception......which is probably why I forgot my St.Patty's Day post on the appointed day! I want you to know that I was doing my part by drinking a very nicely poured Guinness...and eating a big, juicy, perfectly toasted Patty Melt.

At the very least, I hope this adorable vintage card (with its unpronounceable and grammatically incorrect greeting) more than makes up for my lapse of celebratory blogging yesterday! Erin Go Bragh, darlings!

GAMSMAG STYLE

No, I didn't say GANGNAM, I said GAMSMAG...a lookbook of inspiration and ideas compiled by yours truly from sources such as PINTEREST, TUMBLR & FLICKR...the three internet sites that are like friends to me now...and since I'm entirely bored with FB, I'm back to needing all the friends I can get!

Frankly, I feel you can get a lot more deep, personal information about someone from their PINTEREST page than FB...for instance, what colors they like, the clothes they like to wear, people they admire, and whatever else interests them...all in popular visual format, and so much more civilized than a bunch of selfies and embarrassing photobombs!

Speaking of PINTEREST, I have since created several more boards than I reported previously...all the links are listed to the right of this page!! Whether you love color or black & white, vintage or visionary, you'll enjoy a daily dose of EYE CANDY with fabulous flavors like mint, mango, pistachio, coconut, chocolate, cherry, vanilla and strawberry...with sprinkles of art, burlesque, fashion, fun, design, decor and dreams! Enjoy... and share with your friends! Mwahhh!

Fantasy Aprons!

Darlings, have you heard the news? After many years of being a devoted Lady of Leisure, I've just acquired an actual DAY JOB....!!...I know!!  And the main reason it's taken me so long is that there are only a few places that a bona-fide slacker like me would care to engage work. I needed to find a place of inspiration, imagination, color and creative expression! Most importantly...cubicle-free! Something like...a fabulous fabric store, perhaps, where I spend a lot of time anyway? And...it happened! I'm on the job and loving the creative environment, where shelves upon shelves of quilting fabrics are as close as I get to a cubicle.

Inspiration overload and a plethora of gorgeous fabrics, from fancy to fantastic, have motivated me to start designing a few Fantasy Aprons! All those wonderful cocktail and teatime aprons were so popular in the 40's and 50's...but with the dawn of the dishwasher, they just disappeared into the thrift-store racks. Why, oh why? I think it's time to bring them back, don't you?? Thankfully, major pattern companies are reproducing some vintage patterns too cute to forget! Remember my fancy pink satin apron?

It's a vintage-inspired pattern and that's just the type of thing I had in mind...creations of silk, satin, lace, tulle, and gadzooks!!...of course...organza!! The possibilities are endless, I tell ya! So, I have the basic pattern but decided to drum up and dream up a few style ideas from the humble apron's glory days...f'rinstance......

How about a blue-green opalescent dupioni silk with an overskirt of beaded aqua lace? Striped black organza with a scarlet flower applique? A deep blue duchess satin with ruffles the color of the sea, adorned with iridescent Swarovski crystals?? Pearls! Rhinestone appliques! Beaded trims! Aaaarghhh! I'm practically paralyzed with not knowing where to start! But as soon as I do, I promise I'll be sharing the Fahn-ta-see! Anyone for hors d'oeuvres?
