Clown Control

Friends, I hope you don't mind me getting a little personal, but...how do you feel about clowns? Here's a quote from Jack Handy's Deep Thoughts: To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad. Well: That's certainly deep...ver-r-ry deep...

I myself have mixed feelings about clowns...not all bad. I grew up watching Seattle's favorite clown, J.P. Patches, every morning before school, along with every other kid in town...I even danced with him at one of his personal appearances at the local grocery store! J.P. wasn't a creepy clown...he was funny. But lately, as I'm sure you're well aware, clowns have gotten a bad rap...most folks think they're creepy...and, well, most of the time they are! Now I've discovered that some creepy clowns are even creeped out by other creepy clowns...according to these two clowns ~ Trickles McKillagutty and Ronald McFondle, who I had the pleasure of being creeped out by at this month's Match Game Belltown!

You can see they are a playful pair...watch out, though...Ronald bites! (and he doesn't wash his hands!) Here I am being McFondled...

...nothing like it, really...I'm still upset that this photo didn't turn out, but you get the (blurry) picture. Anyway, you might recognize RMcF as one of the stars of the SSP, Seattle's exotic fight-theatre group, but my picture doesn't really do him justice...here's a better one by photographer Jackie Canchola:

...ain't he McLovable? Just keep your daughters locked up...he's a little McSick.

OK. So, if Ronald isn't creepy enough for you, perhaps you'd get a kick out of Trickles the Clown...

I know I did...he's got the most wonderful laugh, and he loves to have twisted fun...check out his website! I don't know about you, but I can't wait to have jolly Trickles follow my coulophobic friends around town! Just look at that shit-eating grin! (his...not mine!)

Isn't that fun??

And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.

Good Grooming

It's never too late to start looking smart! I'm puzzled though...why does a gentlemanly voiceover suggest lightening up on the lipstick? And I can't help feeling awfully sorry for Sue, who must miss the exhilaration of wearing red nail enamel...all because of her stubby hands! One thing that she's got going on, though, is those wonderful floral jammies with matching do-rag! And am I imagining things, or do those jammies also coordinate with her bed's dust-ruffle? Cute!
I'd trade my nice slim hands with their long red nails for that ensemble!

Gammy Doo!

Zoiks!! I've been busier than Bea Arthur's muumuu lately creating gowns and costumes for exciting happenings in the mad month of March! I started out Saturday night at photographer Jackie Kingsbury's Cartoon-A-Palooza birthday party...an occasion which called for a cartoon themed costume, like an adorable Gammy Doo gown!

I used my favorite one-shoulder dress pattern and a couple yards of camel-colored fleece, then wired up a tail to attach to the back, sewed on a few black fleece spots and...since the dress is off-shoulder, I fashioned a glove-like sleeve to cover my bare arm. I gotta tell ya, gang...the fleece was wonderful to work with, and since it's kinda stretchy I was able to dispense with a zipper, preserving not only my precious time, but my precious sanity, as well!

Then I made my own G G version of Scooby Doo's collar...simple craft foam and a glue gun did the trick! I stuck on a pair of ears from the party store, a pair of fleshtone tights and some cheapo UGGs knock-offs...a few dozen Scooby Snacks and a mixed drink...look out! I'm ready for action in the Mystery Machine!

So what's next? It's another glamorous gown for the Gams, to be featured in the Academy of Burlesque Alumni Show in a couple weeks! I'll tell you all about it next time...until then, kidz...XOXO!

Marvelous Gesmar

It wasn't easy finding much information on 1920's Casino De Paris and Folies Bergere poster artist, Charles Gesmar. Born Charles Geismar on May 21, 1900 in Nancy, France, he died from pneumonia at the tragically young age of 28, but spent 10 of those years ~ starting at age 16 ~ as the official poster artist for Mistinguett, La Paris Miss!

Gesmar, who counted Jean Cocteau as one of his greatest admirers, helped create sets and costumes for productions at the newly reopened Moulin Rouge, circa 1925, along with contemporaries Toulouse-Lautrec and Rene Gruau. All in all, in his very short career, Gesmar made over 12,000 drawings, 30 program covers and 55 posters...for Mistinguett as well as others...along with a variety of magazine illustrations for French publications of the day.

Aren't they simply marvelous? Especially for an opium addict!..(so I hear...) If you'd like to find out more, there is a special edition book ~ only 500 copies printed ~ entitled Charles Gesmar 1900-1928 ~ a biography illustrated with most all his works...I hope they saved a copy for me!

Paper Pret-a-Porter

I think paper dolls are meant to be shared! So I've shamelessly grabbed these two-dimensional Date Gals and their adorable duds right off the pages of le blog Chateau Thombeau...the most fabulous blog evah, darlings, and a happy habit that is a daily source of delight!

Unfortunately, it appeared that Thombeau's other fans weren't as enchanted with this selection of paper pret-a-porter as I was...oh, well. Small wonder, considering I was speechless, breathless and practically reeling from a total charm overdose!

So, let's play! I get the blonde one, ok? because she's got cuter clothes. We'll snip them out oh-so carefully, and before you know it we'll be wearing our snoods together, taking tea with a couple o' studs, squeezing in a quick dip and a snappy game of tennis, then dancing the night away...until our midnight curfew, that is...and promptly at 12:05 am, we'll slide into bed and swap confidences all night long! Just like real life! xo

Vermina's Video Pick

Vermina chose today's video selection, Gnarlene's She's Got A Fast One, for several reasons: like Li'l Miss Vermina herself, it's straight off the streets of Seattle and features some of her favorite haunts around Fremont...the old boats along the beach and Troll Under The Bridge! Plus, she likes the fact that this also stars Vermin...(that was her long-lost brother's name, Vermin)...along with colorful characters like Whoretense, DJ Luscious Leopard Lips, and PurpleMark, who isn't really playing the bass, he's just there because he looks cool in the video! In any case, they rock!!

Doesn't our little Vermina have terrific taste?...for a rat?
