Happy Birthday, Gay Dawn!

Today is a very special day!

I don't even have time to apologize for not blogging in the past few months, because right now I'm much too excited to relate how the power of the internet brought a happy ending to a small mystery I've been trying to solve! I'm referring to this blog post of 3 years ago, when I was searching for more to the story on "Everybody's Girl".. Miss Gay Dawn!

Here's the exciting part! Just last night I received an email from an acquaintance who reported that Gay Dawn's daughter, Gayleen Hays, had seen that blog post...then, wonder of wonders, this morning I received a lovely email from Gayleen herself! To me, this is like hearing from a celebrity!

THANK YOU!!!!!
Last night I was feeling so lonely without her and then I found your blog!! It was a wonderful gift, almost as though you two were sending me smiles. I toasted to you and Mommy, remembering the days when I sat next to the piano player and watched her as she bumped and shimmied out of her clothes, so beautiful, I was seven. She was funny, wise, childlike, complicated, full of secrets and sweet. You two are a perfect match. Big hugs, You made her birthday unforgettable!!!

If this wasn't thrilling enough, I was also provided with an update on family and grandchildren, one of whom is Serina Dawn of the Serina Dawn Band.  I was also intrigued to find out that Gayleen authored a book, published in 1992, entitled 'Policewoman One' .. a tell-all about her 20 years on the LAPD! Now how could I have missed that?? and guess who will be visiting Amazon today for a book purchase??

Many, many thanks to Gayleen Hays for reaching out to me! I couldn't be more thrilled that my little post finally found its way home...and a HAPPY, HAPPY birthday to 'Everybody's Girl'.. GAY DAWN! xoxo

Beauty and the Beard

What ever happened to those fabulous glamour shots that were so popular in the 80's? Do you miss 'em as much as I do? Then you'll be glad to know they've been recycled (and look better than ever) as Glamour Beards! And aren't they fetching?

Shop-o-holic!

Hi everyone...my name is Gams...("Hi, Gams!")...and I am a Shop-o-holic! I admit it...it's taken over my life, especially when they have programs that make my addiction soooo much easier to feed...like PHOTOFUNIA, which has image recognition and does most of the work for you...which is how I ended up with this collection of potential GAM-O-RAMA headers! Which one do YOU like best?

......And then...this happened!

Connie's Costumes

Lately, as I've been trying to keep up with my vintage lifestyle/beauty commitment, I've been paying more attention to my coiffure. Ever since I loved Lucy rockin' the Italian Cut in the Black Wig episode I've completely fallen for it! Originally themed on Gina Lollabrigida's chic look, the Italian Cut looked great on many a mid-century maiden, including Liz Taylor and...my idol of the moment...Connie Francis!

Ok, I'm no Connie Francis and I realize I can never hope to be that gorgeous until my next lifetime...in any case, check out my redo of the 'do...

Speaking of Connie...these paper dolls were definitely worth re-blogging from HOUSE OF RETRO! And right in tune with my current mid-century madness! I would thu-rillll to wear anything of these outfits, especially the ones I've mentioned in the captions...

Hi, I'm Connie...let's play dress up!

I'll take that quilted pink robe, yellow headscarf, LBD and fur jacket...

Kimono robe, red ensemble with headscarf! Pink dress and short black evening jacket...

Collared grey dress, red dress, pink ensemble and that yummy, rose-festooned party dress...

Purple unmentionables...black dress and bag, red coat...

Blue dress! Yellow dress! Red and white dress with hat! Polka dot midriff! Black gown with fur and a tiara...

Black jacket with pink skirt, red shorts with floral top, yellow ensemble with pearls!

Good Heavens.....

...has it really been over a month since I've GAM-O-RAMA'd?? I even missed my annual PRIDE POST, which breaks my heart! Good thing my archives are filled to bursting with a good five years worth of fun! Every blogger needs a break now and then. For now, I'll try to get you up to speed.

As usual, I've been up to no good in my bad wig! First, I skipped out on the last month of my lease so I could immediately move into my dream apartment (dreams can come true!) Seriously, I basically sneaked out on a Sunday, dropped the keys in the rent box, left my mattress behind the dumpster and called it a day...a good day! Trashy, I know, but at least now I'm happy as a clam...if a clam can be happy, that is.

The following weekend I hosted a "Wine Toss" game at a local Arts Auction Gala! Three rings for 10 bucks and if you ring a bottle, you get to keep it. I was drinking a little of that wine, too, and giving everybody shit, not realizing that these were the city bigwigs and I shouldn't have said that to the Mayor...but how was I to know the Mayor was a young lady?? (Well, not exactly YOUNG young! Younger than me...but who isn't these days?) In any case, we sold a couple cases worth of wine and I got a great big round of applause at the fabulous dinner party that followed. In typical fashion, I stood and blew Hollywood kisses...Thank you all! (especially you, Mayor) Mwahhhhh! MWAHHHH!

The next bee I got in my bonnet was inspired by RuPaul's Drag Race and I thought, if Mama Ru can be an ordained minister and throw impromptu weddings, why can't I? So, friends and sinners, I am now, officially, an Ordained Minister! You may now call me REVEREND GAMS GALORE!

In the State of Washington I can marry ya or bury ya...your choice. Remember, I put the 'fun' in 'Funeral'!

My plan is to buy an old bus and put together a traveling show...THE REVEREND GAMS GALORE and HER TRAVELING MENSTRUAL SHOW! (That's a play on words, folks...and a good one!)

Can I get a 'Hallelujah'?

Here's Bianca!

The best part of Drag Race is another season...another reason...for the colorful, campy caricatures created by the amazing Chad Sell!
