Until Next Year...

Here are a few more of my Salon posters...unfortunately, the last you'll see for nine long months! I'm afraid it's going to be pre-t-t-y boring on Tuesday nights until the party season begins again...

Which reminds me, friends...if you are planning to be visiting the Seattle area this summer, why not consider a stay at the home of Salon...Pensione Nichols Bed & Breakfast, located right smack dab in the heart of town, above the famous Pike Place Market! You'll have to decide (as I always have trouble doing) which room you love the most...you may like one of the cozy ones with separate baths overlooking First Avenue (which always give me the feeling of a being on some European vacation!) or perhaps one of the fabulous, open suites (with their own kitchen and bath!) at the back, with incredible views of the city and beyond...you can watch the ferries go to and fro across Puget Sound and look down over the Market's Post Alley...an entirely different, more metropolitan feeling! Either way, you'll be treated to fresh breads, fruits and your own pot of coffee while you relax over your morning paper in the wonderful Salon! My dear friend Lindsey Nichols is your friendly proprietor and hostess...tell her Gams sent ya!

Calender Girls

These wonderful illustrations by Eulalie are from a book I've had since I was a small child, called The Bumper Book. The bright colors and charming details always made it a favorite of my own kids, too...but in my opinion, this verse, written by Frances Heilprin, seems to involve wa-a-a-a-a-a-ay  too much work...I wish every day was Sunday, even if it does require church-going!

So, I've taken it upon myself to Gamify (or is it Gamorize?) the poem, making it much more appropriate for my own everyday use! Here goes...

Monday: champagne bubbles fly
Tuesday: gimlets, extra dry
Wednesday: Manhattans and martinis
Thursday: sparkling peach Bellinis
Friday: good for Tequila Sunrise
Saturday: made for tall MaiTais
Sunday:  time for a Bloody Mary
After church we sip our sherry.

Of Corsets.....

Sunday...and, as promised, I've stumbled out of bed long enough to take a couple aspirin and tell you about that show last night...what I can remember of it, that is...

At least I know this much: my song went off without a hitch and the crowd seemed to love it...but, as everybody knows...ya GOTTA love the GAMS! Here are a couple shots taken by Johnny...

Notice that fabulous corset I'm wearing? This is the same beautiful patchwork one designed by my pal Babe! I loved it but wasn't sure how or what to wear it with... until I discovered that it just happened to look sensational with a beaded bra, created years ago, which I loved but was never sure how or what to wear it with...talk about a match made in heaven...and cleavage galore! I've dumped the contents of my beloved Betsey bag here, so you can see the yummy colors and textures in my costume! The pink brocade patchwork just happened to match a pink brocade hat I had laying around...too easy...just the way I like it!

All in all, a very long but fun evening spent singing, drinking and dancing with friends and fans alike!

The Jezebel of Jazz

My newest idol, Miss Anita O'Day!

Anita was definitely ahead of her time as far as scandal was concerned...and ya gotta love 'er...any gal who can survive a couple bad marriages, rape, abortion, alcoholism, arrests and jailtime for possession...and yet still swing with smooth stylings like that...while addicted to heroin throughout 15 years of her career...is a marvel to me! Not to mention her fashion sense and sassy, smart-assed style!

Here's a clip taken at the peak of her career...high as a kite during the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival! You'll love checking out the amazing period fashions in the crowd while enjoying this one!

Designed with you in mind...with love from Gams!
