Gypsy

Queen of Burlesque Gypsy Rose Lee was born right here in Seattle on January 8th, 1911...so doesn't it seem fitting that our Paula the Swedish Housewife would put together a Centennial Celebration in her honor?

Burlesque starlets like beautiful Catherine D'Lish and legendary Joan Arline (pictured below) will perform, along with Seattle's Lily Verlaine and Inga Ingenue (both featured in my favorite documentary ~ A Wink and A Smile)...and Wink director Deirdre Timmons will be presenting a short film she produced for the occasion, which I'm very much looking forward to, since anything Deirdre does is worth seeing!

I hope you don't mind if I start the party a little early by sharing this lovable video!

Dear Santa...

I've been good this year. Here's a short list of Gam-a-licious items I'm sure I deserve! Love, Gams

1. This "Gams Galore" glass ornament would look fabulous on my tree...if only I had one.

2. Bejeweled license plate frames (with Swarovski crystal bolts) to surround my customized GAMS plates...as soon as I get them, anyway.

3. Swarovski-encrusted pink heart-shaped pasties...just because.

4. This G-string Clip can be personalized with a big ol' GG! Can'tcha just picture it, Santa?

5. These drop earrings...or just about anything from the GUESS Collection...always a Gams Galore favorite, you know, because of their "G" logos!

6. A ga-ga-gargantuan bottle of the most glamorous fragrance to ever glamourize a Golden Gullet... Moschino Glamour opens with sparkling accords of tangerine blossom with seductive artemisia, crystallized with harmony of sea salt aromas. The heart encompasses an ironic contrast of ingredients and highlights intensive colours and velvety aromas of hibiscus and cattleya orchid combined with tacts of exotic and transparent lotus flower. Base notes introduce final seduction of unexpected and delicate-sensual amber and cedar, wrapped with inapprehensible white musk.

7. This.

Holiday Sing-Along Time!

Hey gang! After a long, fun-filled day of shopping at the mall, there's nothing more fun than heading home in holiday traffic with a happy song in your heart...right? But all those Christmas songs they play on the radio are so overplayed and tiresome...aren't they? (insert heavy holiday sigh here)

Good thing your pal Gams has once again refreshed an old favorite tune with some snappy new lyrics...and guess what? YOU can sing-along now to my Gam-A-Roke video! It's easy...you already know the tune! Learn the lyrics and you could have it firmly stuck in your head and be ready to start humming it this weekend!

Is everybody ready? Let's sing!

"Je Pose"

Kiki de Montparnasse...Muse to many an infamous artist, sculptor and photographer...party girl, chanteuse and a bit of an artist herself! My obsession with Kiki began quite a few years ago, when I found the book Kiki's Paris ~ Artists and Lovers 1900-1930 ~ at the library, and my imagination was forever captured! This book is a such a treasure trove of fascinating facts, colorful characters and gossip galore, I simply had to own a copy (and you should too, mon choux!) Since then I've spent many a pleasurable hour immersing myself in the bohemian lives of Montparnasse café society, wishing I hadn't been born so late! I'm sure I'd have felt right at home in that time and place...spending my evenings at The Jockey, La Coupole or Le Dôme...posing for the likes of Man Ray, Modigliani, Foujita, Kisling and Picasso...attending "Soirées de Paris" like the Quat'z'Arts ball, which always ended in a swim in the fountain at Place de la Concorde!

Here's a pretty little video I made showcasing some photos and beautiful works of art inspired by The Queen of Montparnasse...along with one of my favorite Josephine Baker songs, J'ai Deux Amours...

I'm a Barbie Girl

These were the Barbies I remember playing with as a child in the early sixties...

Three dollars...with clothes and accessories under five dollars! Well, well...I must say, girlfriend has certainly come up in the world! By now she's certainly forgotten her sordid past as a sex doll...today's Barbie collector will pay a pretty penny for some serious Barbie bling! You can, too!

Is $50 too much to pay for Evening Splendor? Here's the reproduction of that classic ensemble...only $49.98!

For $10 more you can have your own, lifesize classic golden clutch...it's Sealed with a Golden Kiss!...for only $60!

If you lay awake nights wondering what to do with that extra cash you have laying around, and whether a studded pink leather jacket is a good investment...your problem is solved! This limited edition of Night Out will remind you of all your foolish choices...fashionable and monetary! Best of all, darling, it's only $5,000!

Fact is, I've always been crazy about that black-and-white strapless top...a bonafide Barbie classic! So, when I found that I could have one of my very own, studded with rhinestones, no less...it began a thought process: I suppose I could cash in that inheritance from my grandma...the fact that she worked her entire life to save it is irrelevant. This is fucking couture, okay? $10,000 is nothing.

Or, for a little less cash, I could really fall for this Locks of Light chandelier! Honestly, I can't imagine hanging it over my dining table (as I'd imagine hairs falling into my tuna casserole)...but I can imagine it in my boudoir as a symbol of my blonde ambition. Imagine...only $9,000!

One more selection from The Blonde Collection...serious bling in the shape of a ring...are you Blonded By the Light? You should at least see stars for $12,500!

Here's the ultimate gift: Foosbarbie! Ya know, the good thing about Barbies is that they just keep on smilin'...despite bad hair days...despite being stripped naked and forced into contorted positions and poor fashion decisions...despite the fact they've had their arms amputated and been skewered like shrimps on the Barbie for your foosball enjoyment. $25,000. I'd love to get this for my pal Babe of Belltown, but now I've spent all my money on The Blonde Collection!

My Heart Belongs To...

I may indulge
most every bulge
that seems to point in my direction...

But as of late
I hesitate
with where to place my affection...

I simply can't deny
There is one special guy........

Veteran with a Vision

A salute to our Veterans today...one in particular, by the name of Frederick Mellinger, who worked as a tailor in the Army Signal Corps during WWII. His buddies (and their pin-up calendar girls) inspired him to create sexy apparel...like black lace bras...that they could send to their girlfriends back home...so upon his discharge...voila!

Frederick's of Hollywood was born!

That was 1946...by 1964 the company was going strong...because goodness knows, by that time every gal wanted "that 'marry-a-millionaire' look"! In fact, I still do!...especially at these prices.

My favorites here are ALWAYS POPULAR and HOLIDAY ROMANCE!

I've always wanted a li'l somethin' called BUCKLE BAIT...but I'd settle for DOTS WITH DASH!

I don't know what the names of these playsuits are, but who cares? I'll take one of each!

That racy red SHIFTY SIREN might do...and her 'do might do, too!

Just the name MANTRAP is enough to make me want it...and VOGUISH VANITY is sexy, too...but sorry, Frederick, my fine fellow...I'd never buy any frickin' frock called FACT FINDER!

Oh, if only the three in the bottom row were destined to be Dramatically Mine...especially that green ensemble!

Now for the shoes...I'll take TOWN GOSSIP, STAR STRUCK and, of course, JUNGLE KING!

And here's a silly question...why 5 inch heels? Because Mr. Frederick said so, that's why!

Five Scents-es

I've been meaning to show you these miniature perfume bottles that a loved one brought back from Paris about ten years ago...all created by Salvador Dali! Amazingly enough, after all these years the fragrances still smell as yummy as they sound in the following descriptions...although the topnotes of my Dalimix Gold have turned a bit sour, I'm sorry to say.

Dalimix Gold: a golden, citrus, unisex fragrance...fruity notes of bergamot, pear, peach and watermelon are followed by a floral heart of rose, cyclamen, iris and reseda, with basenotes of cedar, sandalwood, moss, amber and raspberry...

Dalissime: devoted to Dali's wife, Gala, created on the centennial of her birth. Peach, apricot, and red fruits, with a heart composed of rose, jasmine and lily of the valley. The bottle was inspired by Dali's painting 'Christmas'...

Laguna: a warm fragrance reminiscent of the sea shore...top notes are fresh and fruity: mandarin, grapefruit, peach, and apricot; a heart of jasmine, rosewood, iris and lily of the valley, with basenotes of tonka, cedar wood, patchouli and vanilla...bottle shaped in the familiar Nose-and-Mouth design...

Le Roy Soleil: a spicy oriental with top notes of pineapple, mandarin orange, apple, bergamot, brazilian rosewood and lemon; a heart of cyclamen, apricot, carnation, cinnamon, orchid, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and rose, and base notes of sandalwood, tonka bean, amber, patchouli, musk, vanilla and vetiver...the original, full-size bottle was of Baccarat crystal and designed for Elsa Schiaparelli!

Daliflor: citrusy notes of tart mandarin, grapefruit, verbena and violet; a heart of Turkish rose and carnation, lily of the valley and Egyptian jasmine; at the base, rose unites with warm sandalwood, musk and Bourbon vanilla...inspired by Woman With a Head of Roses...

Some of these wonderful fragrances are still available online...at The Dali Museum, for instance...unless you happen to be wandering around Montmartre, of course!
